SANTEE, San Diego County — October 31, 2026. Santee is directing residents to prepare for possible winter storms and localized flooding ahead of the 2026–27 rainy season. The city says sand and sandbags are available to Santee households at a municipal operations facility, with a limit of ten bags per household while supplies last.
Where are the sandbags?
According to the City of Santee’s storm preparedness page, the pickup location is the Public Services Operations Center, 9534 Via Zapador, Santee. The supply is first-come, first-served and residents fill their own bags. That last detail matters: bringing equipment to move sand may be necessary, and the city’s page does not promise that municipal employees will fill and carry bags for every visitor.
Does an El Niño outlook mean flooding is imminent?
No. The city’s October 5 preparedness announcement says the climate pattern may increase the likelihood of wetter conditions in Southern California, but does not guarantee a particular rainfall total, storm or flood. On its October 26 update, the city listed no significant weather impacts expected and no active service closure. That was the status at the time of that update, not a real-time forecast for every subsequent day.
What should residents report?
Residents who notice a blocked public storm drain can submit a nonemergency concern through the city’s MySanteeCA service request app, following the instructions on its storm page. For an immediate threat to life or safety, call 911 instead of relying on a routine app submission.
Households can also keep drains and private-property drainage paths clear, review emergency supplies and avoid driving through flooded intersections. Sandbags may help redirect limited surface water but do not guarantee protection against severe flooding. The safest next action during a weather emergency depends on current official warnings.
